49ers Announce 2022 Schedule

The San Francisco 49ers have announced their 2022 regular season schedule as well as the opponents and date ranges for the team’s three preseason games.

The 49ers will face the NFC South and AFC West in cross-divisional play, while continuing to battle their NFC West opponents twice a year. San Francisco will also host the Miami Dolphins (Week 13) and Washington Commanders (Week 16) and visit the Chicago Bears (Week 1).

The Niners open the regular season on the road as they travel to Chicago to take on the Bears at Soldier Field. The team is scheduled to play in five prime time games during the regular season in 2022, including two at home, with two on NBC’s Sunday Night Football (Week 3 at Denver & Week 10 vs. Los Angeles Chargers), two on ESPN’s Monday Night Football (Week 3 vs. Los Angeles Rams & Week 11 at Arizona – Mexico City) and one on Amazon Prime Video’s Thursday Night Football (Week 15 at Seattle).

A Closer Look at the 2022 Schedule…

  • The Niners open the regular season on the road (at Chicago) for the fourth time in five seasons.
  • The 49ers open the season on the road against a NFC North opponent for the second-consecutive year (Week 1 at Detroit in 2021).
  • San Francisco opens the regular season at the Chicago Bears for the first time in franchise history. It also marks the fourth time the teams have opened the season against one another overall and the first time since 2003.
  • The 49ers close the regular season at home (Week 18 vs. Arizona) for the second time in three seasons.
  • The 49ers face five teams in 2022 that reached the postseason in 2021 (Arizona, Kansas City, Las Vegas, Los Angeles Rams and Tampa Bay).
  • San Francisco will visit two stadiums for the first time in the home of the Atlanta Falcons (Mercedes-Benz Stadium) and Las Vegas Raiders (Allegiant Stadium).

 

Week 1 – Sunday, September 11 at Chicago – 10:00 a.m. PT on FOX

  • San Francisco’s overall record vs. Chicago is 35-32-1 and 13-18-1 on the road.
  • The Niners look to win their third-consecutive game at Chicago, as the 49ers return to Soldier Field for the second-consecutive season after defeating the Bears, 33-22, in 2021.
  • The 49ers have won 5 out of their last 8 games against Chicago.
  • The 49ers are 2-1 when facing Chicago in the opening game of the season.
  • The Niners are 10-7-1 in season openers against the NFC North division.

 

Week 2 – Sunday, September 18 vs. Seattle – 1:05 p.m. PT on FOX

  • San Francisco is 17-30 in the all-time series vs. Seattle and 9-13 at home.
  • Two of the 49ers last four home games against the Seahawks have gone to overtime.
  • The Niners are 2-0 when they play their home opener against the Seahawks, and 15-7 against the NFC West in home openers.

 

Week 3 – Sunday, September 25 at Denver – 5:20 p.m. PT on NBC

  • San Francisco owns the overall series record against Denver 8-7 and is 2-4 on the road.
  • The teams meet for the first time in the regular season since the 49ers defeated the Broncos, 20-14, at Levi’s Stadium in 2018.
  • The 49ers have won three of the last four meetings, including a split of the last two games in Denver.
  • The Niners look to win at Empower Field at Mile High Stadium for the first time since defeating the Broncos, 26-23, in overtime on December 31, 2006.
  • This marks the fourth primetime matchup between the two teams, as San Francisco looks to even the primetime series at 2-2.
  • The 49ers visit the Broncos on NBC’s Sunday Night Football for the second-consecutive time (10/19/14 at Denver).

 

Week 4 – Monday, October 3 vs. Los Angeles Rams – 5:15 p.m. PT on ESPN

  • San Francisco leads the all-time series against the Rams, 75-68-3.
  • San Francisco is 9-3-1 in their last 13 meetings at home against the Rams, with the Niners holding a 37-34-2 record at home against the Rams.
  • The two teams have squared off on Monday Night Football 11 times, with the 49ers holding a 7-4 record in those games.
  • The Niners have defeated the Rams in each of their past three meetings on ESPN’s Monday Night Football, including a 31-10 victory in their last MNF matchup on November 15, 2021.
  • San Francisco’s 50 wins on Monday Night Football are the second-most wins on MNF in NFL history, trailing only the Pittsburgh Steelers (51).

Week 5 – Sunday, October 9 at Carolina – 1:05 p.m. PT on CBS

  • The 49ers are 9-13 overall against the Panthers, including a 5-6 record on the road.
  • San Francisco plays Carolina for the first time since 2019, when the 49ers defeated the Panthers, 51-13 on 10/27/19.

 

Week 6 – Sunday, October 16 at Atlanta – 10:00 a.m. PT on FOX

  • San Francisco’s overall record vs. Atlanta is 48-32-1 and 19-20-1 on the road.
  • The Niners are visiting the Falcons for the first time since 2016, as the matchup marks San Francisco’s first game at Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
  • The 49ers have won 15 out of their last 26 overall games against Atlanta.

 

Week 7 – Sunday, October 23 vs. Kansas City – 1:25 p.m. PT on FOX

  • The 49ers and Chiefs have split the all-time series record against one another, with each team winning 7 games apiece.
  • The Niners are 5-1 overall against the Chiefs at home, including wins in five consecutive meetings at home versus Kansas City.
  • This is the second regular season visit to Levi’s Stadium for the Chiefs, and the first since the 49ers defeated Kansas City, 22-17, in 2014.

Week 8 – Sunday, October 30 at Los Angeles Rams – 1:25 p.m. PT on FOX

  • The 49ers have won five of the last six regular season matchups at the Rams since their return to Los Angeles in 2016.
  • San Francisco looks for their third win in Los Angeles’ SoFi Stadium, which opened in 2020, having most recently defeated the Rams, 27-24, on January 9, 2022 in overtime to qualify for the postseason.
  • San Francisco looks to sweep the regular season series against the Rams for the fourth-consecutive season for the first time since 1995-98.

Week 9 – Sunday, November 6 – BYE

  • This marks the first time since 2013 that the 49ers have had their BYE in Week 9.

Week 10 – Sunday, November 13 vs. Los Angeles Chargers – 5:20 p.m. PT on NBC

  • San Francisco is 7-8 overall in the all-time series vs. the Chargers and 3-3 at home.
  • The 49ers have won six of the last 11 overall meetings against the Chargers.
  • The Niners will host the Chargers for the first time since 2014, Levi’s Stadium’s inaugural season.
  • This will be the third primetime meeting between the two teams, as the 49ers look for their first victory.

Week 11 – Monday, November 21 at Arizona (Mexico City) – 5:15 p.m. PT on ESPN

  • San Francisco owns the overall series record vs. Arizona, 32-29.
  • The Niners are 4-1 against Arizona on ESPN’s Monday Night Football.
  • The matchup marks just the fourth time the team will play a regular season game outside the U.S. in franchise history and the second time that the Niners have faced the Cardinals at Azteca Stadium (10/2/05).
  • The 49ers are 2-1 in international play, as the Niners most recent trip abroad in 2013 resulted in a 42-10 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in London’s Wembley Stadium.

Week 12 – Sunday, November 27 vs. New Orleans – 1:25 p.m. PT on FOX

  • San Francisco is 49-27-2 in the all-time series vs. New Orleans and 23-12-2 at home.
  • The Niners have won four out of the last seven overall games against the Saints.
  • San Francisco faces New Orleans at home for the first time since 2016, as this marks the second trip to Levi’s Stadium for the Saints.

Week 13 – Sunday, December 4 vs. Miami – 1:05 p.m. PT on FOX

  • The 49ers are 6-8 in the all-time series vs. Miami and 3-4 at home.
  • San Francisco has won six of the last 10 overall meetings with Miami.
  • The Niners host the Dolphins at Levi’s Stadium for the second time in three seasons (2020).

Week 14 – Sunday, December 11 vs. Tampa Bay – 1:25 p.m. PT on FOX

  • The 49ers are 18-7 in the all-time series vs. the Buccaneers and 12-3 at home.
  • The Niners have won five of the last eight overall matchups against the Bucs and are looking for their second-straight victory over Tampa Bay [W, 31-17 at TB (9/8/19)].
  • San Francisco faces Tampa Bay at home for the first time since 2016, as this marks the second trip to Levi’s Stadium for the Buccaneers.

Week 15 – Thursday, December 15 at Seattle – 5:15 p.m. PT on Amazon Prime Video

  • The 49ers are 8-17 overall on the road at Seattle.
  • The game marks the fifth time the two teams have faced off on Thursday Night Football, with the series currently tied at 2-2.
  • San Francisco won its lone previous road matchup on Thursday Night Football against Seattle, a 24-14 victory on December 14, 2006.

Week 16 – Saturday, December 24 vs. Washington – 1:05 p.m. PT on CBS

  • San Francisco owns a 21-12-1 overall series record vs. Washington and 12-4-1 at home.
  • The 49ers look to improve to 2-0 against the Commanders at Levi’s Stadium, as San Francisco faces Washington at Levi’s Stadium for just the second time [W, 17-13 vs. Was. (11/23/14)].
  • San Francisco is 5-2 overall when playing on Christmas Eve.

 

Week 17 – Sunday, January 1 at Las Vegas – 1:05 p.m. PT on FOX

  • The 49ers are 7-7 overall against the Raiders, including a 3-3 record on the road.
  • San Francisco travels to Allegiant Stadium for the first time.
  • The Niners have won four of the last five meetings between the two teams.
  • The matchup marks the first regular season meeting between the two teams since 11/1/18, when the 49ers defeated the Raiders, 34-3, at Levi’s Stadium.
  • The 49ers have a 2-1 record when playing on New Year’s Day.

Week 18 – Saturday or Sunday, January 7-8 vs. Arizona

  • The 49ers are 18-14 at home vs. the Cardinals and have won seven out of their last 13 home games vs. Arizona.
  • The two teams have split their last six matchups.
  • San Francisco closes its season against Arizona for the first time since 2014.
