49ers Announce Roster Moves
The San Francisco 49ers today announced they have signed WR Travis Benjamin and OL Tom Compton to one-year deals.
Benjamin (5-10, 175) was originally drafted by the Cleveland Browns in the fourth round (100th overall) of the 2012 NFL Draft. Throughout his eight NFL seasons with the Browns (2012-15) and San Diego/Los Angeles Chargers (2016-19), Benjamin appeared in 101 games (37 starts) and registered 208 receptions for 3,143 yards (15.1 average) and 19 touchdowns. He has also returned 109 punts for 1,189 yards and four touchdowns on special teams.
In 2019 with the Chargers, Benjamin appeared in five games (two starts) where he registered six receptions for 30 yards prior to being placed on the Injured Reserve List on October 17, 2019 where he spent the remainder of the season.
A 30-year-old native of Belle Glade, FL, Benjamin attended the University of Miami where he appeared in 49 games and registered 131 receptions for 2,146 yards (16.4 average) and 13 touchdowns. As a senior in 2011, finished with 41 catches for 609 yards (14.9 average) and three touchdowns.
Compton (6-6, 315) was originally drafted by the Washington Redskins in the sixth round (193rd overall) of the 2012 NFL Draft. Over the past eight seasons, he has played with the Redskins (2012-15), Atlanta Falcons (2016), Chicago Bears (2017), Minnesota Vikings (2018) and New York Jets (2019). Compton has appeared in 99 games (34 starts) along the offensive line and also saw action in four postseason contests. In 2019, he appeared in 14 games (five starts) with the Jets.
A 30-year-old native of Rosemount, MN, Compton attended the University of South Dakota (2007-11) and started all 43 games in which he appeared after redshirting as a freshman in 2007.
